S Reed Shimamoto

MD, FAAP

Dr S. Reed Shimamoto grew up in Montana and Colorado. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, in Denver, CO. He completed his Pediatric Residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ from 1997 to 2000 and served as Chief Resident 2000-2001. Along with Dr. Jain he then completed his Allergy & Immunology fellowship at National Jewish Health Center and University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver from 2001 to 2003, Colorado where he was Chief Fellow and a member of the Medical Staff between 2002-2003. Dr. Shimamoto founded San Tan Allergy & Asthma in 2005, and has been featured in Phoenix Magazine’s “Top Docs” issues. He is currently a member of the American College of Allergy and Immunology, the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, The American Academy of Pediatrics and is Board Certified in Allergy & Immunology and Pediatrics. Dr. Shimamoto has lectured on asthma, allergies, anaphylaxis, food allergy and eosinophilic diseases at local and national programs. He is currently accepting new pediatric and adult patients. Dr. Shimamoto lives in Gilbert with his wife and daughters and enjoys responsible marine fish/reef keeping, gardening, swimming and cooking.

Neal Jain

MD, FAAP, FAAAAI

Dr Neal Jain is an Arizona native. He obtained his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin and subsequently trained in Pediatrics at Phoenix Children’s Hospital where he served as a chief resident during 2001-2002. Both he and Dr. Shimamoto trained in Allergy, Asthma and Immunology at National Jewish Health Center and University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Jain was appointed Chief Fellow at National Jewish Health Center and was a member of the Medical Staff between 2003-2004. Prior to joining San Tan Allergy & Asthma in January 2010 , he practiced as an Allergist/Immunologist at Dean Health System in Madison, Wisconsin. Dr. Jain was also on faculty as a Professor of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin in the division of Allergy, Pulmonary, and Critical Care Medicine, where he supervised fellows in training. He has been an active member of the community serving as Medical Director for the Food Allergy Association of Wisconsin, Chair of The Wisconsin Asthma Coalition and on the Board of Directors for the National Eczema Association. Dr. Jain is President of the Arizona Allergy Society, a fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, & Immunology and of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is board certified by the American Board of Allergy & Immunology and Pediatrics. Dr. Jain is currently a regular contributing writer of the “House Call” segment for the magazine Living Without (http://www.livingwithout.com/) and has also been featured on a nationally syndicated television program to discuss new asthma technologies. He has authored or co-authored a number of studies published in peer-reviewed journals and continues to pursue clinical research. Dr. Jain is currently accepting new pediatric and adult patients. Outside of his professional responsibilities, Dr. Jain enjoys spending time with his family, playing doubles sand volleyball, and cooking.

Jennifer Hill

MD

Dr. Jennifer Hill grew up in Mesa, Arizona. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Arizona State University where she received a Bachelors of Science in Psychology. She then attended medical school at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson. While at the University of Arizona, Dr. Hill was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and graduated with honors. Thereafter, she remained in Tucson to complete her Internal Medicine residency at Banner University Medical Center. During residency she received several awards including “Intern of the Year” and “Outstanding Resident in Allergy, Immunology, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.” In addition, she was recognized for her leadership and dedication to research with the “Resident Research Distinction Award” and the “Graduate Medical Education Resident Excellence and Leadership Scholarship.” She served as chief resident and clinical instructor from 2014 – 2015. Like Drs. Shimamoto and Jain, Dr. Hill completed her Allergy & Immunology fellowship at National Jewish Health and University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Hill has published articles in peer reviewed academic journals, has authored a book chapter on aspirin exacerbated respiratory disease, and has co-authored several research studies. In addition, she has presented on various Allergy and Immunology topics at national and local conferences. She continues to have a strong interest in clinical research.

Dr. Hill is a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and is board certified by the American Board of Allergy & Immunology. She is a member of the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology; the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology; and the American College of Physicians. She is currently accepting new pediatric and adult patients. In her spare time, Dr. Hill enjoys bike rides and hiking with her family, cooking, reading, dining out and traveling.

Priscilla Wong

MD, FAAAAI, FACAAI

Dr. Priscilla Wong grew up in northern California and completed her undergraduate degree at Stanford University where she majored in Human Biology. She graduated medical school at the Uniformed Services University School of Medicine, the nation’s federal medical school, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She then completed a combined adult and pediatric allergy immunology fellowship at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Wong is board certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology and the American Board of Pediatrics.

Dr. Wong was recently practicing at Stanford University where she was a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine. At Stanford, Dr. Wong was active in program development and teaching residents and fellows-in-training. She also has global experience as a pediatrician and allergy immunology physician in the US Air Force, including at Luke Air Force Base where she hosted medical students in her allergy clinic and directed the operation of several clinics.

Dr. Wong is active in allergy research and has published over a dozen articles in peer reviewed scientific journals. She enjoys giving lectures and research presentations at national conferences. Dr. Wong has received numerous awards, including the Esprit de Corp award for her humanistic qualities upon graduation from medical school, the outstanding graduating resident award, two Air Force Commendation Medals, and several research awards at the national level. Dr. Wong is a fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, and a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

For Dr. Wong, “Every patient is unique, and I am passionate about caring for patients, helping each person understand their condition and options, and forming a personalized and targeted treatment plan.”

Dr. Wong is married to a native Arizonan, and her young family is keeping her active outside of the clinic. She is accepting new adult and pediatric patients and is excited to be back in Arizona caring for patients with allergic diseases!

Carly Hopkins

PA-C

Carly Hopkins was born and raised in Mesa, Arizona. She graduated Cum Laude from Arizona State University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2009. Prior to attending PA school, she worked in inpatient and outpatient radiology settings. She also spent a month in Tanzania, Africa on a medical mission to serve pediatric patients in that region. She then attended PA school at AT Still University and graduated with distinction in 2013. During PA school she was involved in several community outreach and volunteer events providing medical care to those who didn’t otherwise have access to it. After graduating PA school, she spent 4 years practicing Internal Medicine in Chandler AZ. In 2017 she decided to expand her career in the field of Asthma, Allergy and Immunology and joined our team at San Tan Allergy and Asthma. Carly is a nationally board-certified physician assistant, a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants as well as the Arizona State Association of Physician Assistants. She currently also has memberships with the Arizona Allergy and Asthma Society and the American Academy of Physician Assistants in Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. Carly is married and has two young children (a daughter and a son). She enjoys spending time with family, camping, playing volleyball and traveling.

Garima Khanal

PA-C

Garima is an Arizona native, who was born in Mesa and raised in Arrowhead. She graduated summa cum laude from Barrett Honors College at Arizona State University in 2016. She worked in outpatient primary care settings prior to attending physician assistant school. She also worked as a barista and retail sales manager at this time to strengthen her communication skills and explore different careers. She then attended graduate school at NAU and graduated in 2020. She has since joined our team here at San Tan Allergy and Asthma. Garima is a nationally board-certified physician assistant and is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and Arizona State Association of Physician Assistants. Garima acts and dances and teaches Bollywood dance classes around the Valley.

Kerry Berghoff

FNP-C

Kerry Berghoff, our nurse practitioner, has been working in allergy for almost twenty years. She started out her professional life as a biologist, however, and it took her a few years before she went back to school for her nursing degree. It took ten more years before she would become a nurse practitioner, but she would continue her work in allergy during this time. Patient education is one of her passions as is getting to know patients and their families as they deal with their allergies (and asthma and eczema), improving their health along the way.

Outside of work, Kerry likes to spend time with her husband of 25 years and their six (yes 6) Cavalier King Spaniels. She likes to cook, read, craft, and listen to both music and audiobooks.

Meet Our Staff

Sweney

LPN, Clinical Manager

Sweney has been a Licensed Practical Nurse since 2013 and has worked in allergy from the start of her career. She has worked for SanTan Allergy & Asthma since 2015. She has worked in the back office with majority of the MDs and worked in both locations. In 2019 she recently took on the position of Clinical Manager and provides oversight to the medical assistants and the nurses in the offices. She has always been passionate about the medical field and knew as a child that she wanted to be in some kind of medical position, but it was not until her junior year in high school that she decided to go into the nursing field. The passion she has had for nursing has only grown since working in the field and she finds it extremely rewarding to provide help and compassion to people that she sees day to day. She could not imagine being in any other field. Sweney was born in California but raised in Arizona most of her life. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her son, along with traveling when she can. In addition to this, she is very family oriented and loves to hang out with family and close friends.

Catherine

Registered Medical Assistant

Catherine, RMA is the office biologics coordinator. She has been caring for patients as an RMA in Arizona since 2003. Catherine has worked several years in pediatrics and family practice and has been with San Tan Allergy & Asthma since 2018. She enjoys assisting the patients in our community and prides herself in making every patient feel valued and cared for. Catherine always wants the patient to leave the office having a great experience.

In her free time, Catherine enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, as well as their two dogs. She also has a side business as a portrait photographer and enjoys roller-skating every chance she gets!

Jade

Certified Medical Assistant

Jade is Dr. Shimamoto’s Medical Assistant. She is originally from Hillsboro, Oregon but has been living in Mesa, Arizona for about 6 years now. She graduated from her medical assisting program top of her class in 2018 with a 4.0 GPA, then became an AAMA Certified Medical Assistant in 2019, she is also now working towards my BSN-RN degree. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her daughter who keeps her more than busy and is a fun ball of energy. Growing up she took care of her grandmother who had cancer; therefore, she always knew she wanted to be in the medical field. She loves meeting new patients and getting the chance to hear their story, She always looks forward to growing and delivering the best care she can to her patients.

Lynn

Medical Assistant

Lynn is the back-office lead at San Tan Allergy & Asthma. She is a true Chicago girl but is happy to be here in Arizona and enjoying the summer sun. She is a driven individual who has found a passion in working with patients. This led her to further develop her skills through an Associates in Science and RMA certification. From direct patient interactions to managing office work she finds fulfillment and value in knowing that she is positively impacting patients. Outside of work she enjoys exploring the world with her mini me, Miliano, her 6-year-old son. Who gives her energy in life, capability to love others, and always enjoy the journey that is next to come. She is happy and hopeful that she can bring a part of her positivity to help you here at San Tan Allergy & Asthma.

Taylor

Certified Medical Assistant

Taylor is a certified medical assistant that graduated in 2017 from West-MEC. She currently is the medical assistant assigned to our nurse practitioner, Kerry Berghoff. She came on with SanTan Allergy & Asthma in 2021. She has enjoyed the last several years learning and working in allergy and asthma and providing dedicated care to her patient’s. She is a native to Arizona and enjoys spending time outdoors exploring with her significant other and their husky, Nav.

Marisa

Registered Medical Assistant

Marisa Sells is our Serum Manager. She has been with San Tan Allergy & Asthma for 14 years and it gives her joy to know that she contributes to our patient’s allergy/asthma treatment plans. She absolutely loves and enjoys her job. In her free time, she enjoys working with all the wonderful providers and her teammates. She is an Arizona native, and she loves traveling, hiking, reading, yoga, and spending time with her family.

Erin

Medical Assistant

Erin is originally from Massachusetts but has lived in Chandler, Arizona most of her life. She started working for San Tan Allergy & Asthma in September of 2020 and is Dr. Hopkins Medical Assistant. She has a background working in weight loss/med spa and urgent care settings over the past 6 years. She’s extremely compassionate about patient care and always has great energy with an outstanding bedside manner. In Erin’s spare time she enjoys going to Disneyland as much as possible with her daughter, and she LOVES Starbucks.

Alaina

Medical Assistant

Alaina has been a Medical Assistant since 2018 with a background in Cardiology and Weight Loss. She is Garima’s medical assistant. Having suffered from severe childhood allergies and asthma herself, as well as her son, she is very passionate about patient care and learning more about the field.

Compassionate and dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse with over five years of experience in healthcare.

Serena

Medical Assistant

Serena is a newly graduated medical assistant as of 2020 but has been employed with SanTan Allergy and Asthma as a front office receptionist. She is currently enrolled in school to continue her education for her BSN. She enjoys working with patients and making sure they leave with a smile on their face.

Kathy

Registered Medical Assistant

Kathy is a registered medical assistant. She has 12 years experience as an RMA and she has been working at San Tan Allergy & Asthma for almost 7 years. She always try’s to treat patients the way she would want herself or her family treated. She enjoys being a part of San Tan Allergy & Asthma.

Samantha

Medical Assistant

Samantha is a certified medical assistant who has been with the practice since October of 2019. She graduated from Hamilton High School with a 4.0 GPA and a President’s award for volunteering over 500 hours. She is currently enrolled with Rio Salado and will be starting her nursing program in August of 2022. She is Dr. Hill’s medical assistant and she travels between both the Arcadia and Gilbert Location. During the week Samantha is an early bird you will find at the CrossFit gym. In her spare time outside of work she enjoys finding a new book to read, hanging out with her dog Sulu or spending time with family.

Vanessa P.

Medical Assistant

Vanessa “Vee” is a medical assistant who works in our shot department. She has been with SanTan Allergy for a year but has been in the medical field for 18 years. She has worked in Family medicine and urgent care settings in the past.  Vanessa is passionate about her role in the shot department because she is making a difference in helping patients feel better.  Her daily goal is to make people laugh and smile.

Vanessa R.

Medical Assistant

Vanessa R. is a Certified Medical Assistant who has worked for Santan Allergy and Asthma for 2 years. She has worked helping the providers and is now working permanently in the shot department. Vanessa R. is passionate about her role as a Medical Assistant because she is able to help patients feel better and build relationships with them so that they feel comfortable while they are at their visit. Vanessa is looking forward to keep growing with the company.
